Our Branch

The Branch is one of many within the national charity Cats' Protection, whose aims are simple and straightforward:

  1. To rescue stray and unwanted cats and kittens, rehabilitate and rehome them where possible.
  2. To encourage the neutering of all cats and kittens not required for breeding.
  3. To inform the public on the care of cats and kittens.

Our Branch covers Mere & Gillingham (Dorset), Shaftesbury (shared with Blandford and District), Sherborne, Tisbury, Templecombe, Wincanton and all the villages between them. Everywhere with a post code beginning with BA8, BA9, BA12 (excluding Warminster), DT9, SP3, SP7 (shared) or SP8 is covered.

Cats Protection has one of the lowest administrative costs of any charity, but as a voluntary cause we rely entirely on the help and support of the public. All our Branch workers are unpaid volunteers. If you could spare a little time each week to help us we would be very grateful to hear from you.   All expenses are paid, so it won't cost you any thing but your time.

Fund Raising and Webshop

As the Branch is a charity, it relies on fund-raising events and donations to fund its work. As you will see at the top of each page, we have a link to our webshop hosted by BUY.AT. This link provides access to over 80 internet suppliers including Amazon, Comet, Marks & Spencer, the RAC and many others. If you like internet shopping, please try our webshop first. The prices you pay will be the same, but we will get a small commission on any transactions made. Please note that all transactions are subject to the trading terms and conditions of the supplier concerned and that neither the Mere & Gillingham Branch nor Cats' Protection can be held responsible for any problems.

We are always pleased to welcome new members to the Branch.  So, if you like cats, or you wish to support our work, why not become a member of the Mere and Gillingham Branch of Cats' Protection?  The subscription fee is a mere £5 per year, although you are free to send us a larger donation if you wish!

If you wish to join us, please click on the button below for a Membership Form in PDF format.  Please note that it may take a short while to download.  Print a copy of the form, and send it to us together with your subscription.  You do not have to become an active member of the Branch if you do not wish to do so, but additional help is always welcome.
