Spend And Raise - Mere & Gillingham Branch Cats' Protection

|

This page gives a list of the cats we have in our care.  All cats in this Branch are given an MOT (Mog OK Test) as follows:

The cat is taken to Southill Vets for an initial examination, which will include blood testing for FeLV/FIV, flea/worm treatment, any dental work and, if necessary, neutering.  In addition, the cat will be microchipped and be given its 1st vaccination against Flu, Enteritis and FeLV.  If the cat remains in the Branch's care for 3 weeks following the 1st vaccination, it will be returned to the Vet for its 2nd vaccination.

These checks ensure that animals are as healthy as possible when they are re-homed.

The page is divided into four sections, Cats (6 months old and above), Kittens, Cats Looking for Work and Special Needs Cats.  To view these please use the scrollbars or select a topic from the menu below:

If you are interested in any of the cats listed on this page, please contact us.

Kittens (less than 6 months old)

We have a number of kittens at present, but this may change very quickly.  Please check the list below or contact us on the Branch's Answerphone on 01747 840621 or email us.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT A KITTEN, LIKE ANY OTHER PET ANIMAL, IS FOR LIFE.  IT IS NOT JUST A SHORT-TERM PRESENT BECAUSE IT LOOKS CUTE AND CUDDLY.

Please note the Branch does not home young kittens with families who have children under the age of 6 years old.  We have found young children and kittens are not a good mix, and have had kittens returned because a child has got scratched or suddenly develops an allergy.  In addition, cases have arisen where a kitten has been cuddled too enthusiastically and has died of internal injuries.

We have a number of new born kittens.  They will be ready for homing in about 9 weeks time.  Please contact the Branch if you are interested in these new kittens.

Out of Work Mousers Looking for Homes

Currently the Branch has several Semi Ferals looking for homes, ideally in a stable or on a smallholding/farm. All the cats have been blood tested for FIV/Felv, neutered and microchipped.  The Branch will assist a new owner in providing pens to enable the cats to be kept safely and securely for a period of 2 weeks at which point they can released into their new environment.  Some of the cats looking for homes are used to human contact and can be stroked.

Special Needs Cats

Because of the nature of Cats Protection work we rescue cats from all types of environments, some of which, along with the treatment of the cats by humans, have had an adverse impact on the cat’s character. This makes them very difficult to home because they often have quite bizarre behavioural problems, though not necessarily of the violent kind.

We do not have any Special Needs cats at present.
